What to Pack in your nappy bag this winter

Are you a parent braving the chilly winter months in Australia with your little bundle of joy? As temperatures drop in the southern states (yes we see you all smug and warm Queenslanders!) and the weather becomes unpredictable, it's crucial to be prepared and keep your baby warm and comfortable during outdoor adventures. One essential any parent will never leave home without is your trusty nappy bag, packed with all the essentials for the possible weather scenarios you may be hit with.

Why a Well-Stocked Nappy Bag is a Winter Essential:

As a Mum, you know that a nappy bag is a lifeline when it comes to being out and about with your little ones.  During the winter season, I used to go a little stir-crazy at home and really feel the need to get out in the fresh air even if it was cold and gloomy. But of course, the weather can change from one moment to the next, so planning for all weather and stocking up my nappy bag well made a huge difference and meant we could jump in puddles or go feed the ducks and feel prepared for anything!

OK grab a cup of hot coffee (a rare thing for a Mum we know!), get cosy, and let's make sure you're fully equipped for your winter outings.

What to pack in your nappy bag for winter

Nappy Bag Checklist for Winter in Australia:
  1.  Warm Hat: Keep your little ones' heads protected from the chilly winds with a snug and cosy beanie
  1. Winter Swaddle or Sleeping Bag: Ensure your baby stays warm and comfortable during pram naps or overnight outings with a winter-weight swaddle or sleeping bag.
  1. Warm Socks or Booties (x2): Pack two pairs of warm socks or booties to keep your baby's feet toasty. This way, if one pair gets wet or dirty, you'll have a backup ready to go. (think toddler jumping in puddles at the park!)
  1. Long-Sleeve Onesies (x2): Layering is key to keeping your baby warm. Pack a couple of long-sleeve onesies or bodysuits to provide an additional layer of warmth.
  1. Nappies and Wipes: Don't leave home without an ample supply of nappies and wipes. Be sure to pack extras, especially for longer outings, to avoid any unexpected accidents.
  1. Mittens or gloves: Protect your baby's delicate hands from the cold by packing a pair of mittens. These will keep their little fingers warm and prevent them from scratching their sensitive skin.
  1. Warm Blanket: A soft and warm blanket is a winter essential for your nappy bag. It can be used for snuggling, covering the stroller or car seat, or providing an extra layer of warmth when needed.
  1. Hand Cream: Cold weather can be harsh on your hands. Pack a small tube of hand cream to keep your hands moisturised and protected during those frequent nappy changes.
  1. Nappy Rash Cream: Winter conditions can sometimes worsen the nappy rash. Carry a travel-sized nappy rash cream to soothe and protect your baby's skin.
  1. Lip Balm: Don't forget to take care of yourself too! Pack a nourishing lip balm to prevent chapped lips during the cold winter days.
  1. Wet bag for soiled or muddy wet items.
  1. Umbrella
