Summer outings with your little one can be so magical, but they often come with their own surprises—some of them messy! Being prepared is the best way to avoid nasty surprises that can lead to a meltdown cutting your day short. But it’s not always about the obvious things like nappies and wipes. Sometimes, it’s those unexpected essentials that can save the day.

Here’s my list of unexpected yet super helpful things you might not think to pack in your nappy bag this summer, but trust me, you’ll be glad you did.

1. Mini First Aid Kit

Bumps, scrapes, and mozzie bites can often be part of summer adventures, and they can quickly turn a fun day trip into a disaster. A small first aid kit with band-aids, antiseptic wipes, antihistamine, and a mini tube of sting ointment can make all the difference. It doesn’t take up much space but will have you prepared for little emergencies that are bound to happen.

2. Mini Portable Fan

Babies and toddlers can overhead very quickly in a car seat or pram,  that’s why I would always keep a clip on mini fan packed for summer outings. Find one that can clip to your pram or car seat and you’ve got a simple solution to help avoid overheating on those extra hot days. Plus, the gentle  white noise can help with sleep if you are out during nap time.

3. Bathers

This might seem like an obvious one, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been out and ended up with an unplanned dip in the ocean or a splash session running through water play at the park. Keep a spare pair of bathers in the bag and you’ll be ready for any spontaneous water fun any time. If you little one is still in nappies you might want to add a swimming nappy as well.

4. Mozzie Spray

Summer can bring out those pesky mozzies, and nothing ruins an outdoor adventure faster than itchy bites.  My youngest  has a very nast reacttion to Mozzie bites so one bite can send us home. Thats why I always keep a mini bottle of mozzie spray handy., and be sure to spray before heading outdoors. Look for one that’s specially formulated for kids, as these tend to have a gentler scent and are safe for sensitive skin. We use  Aerogard Kids.

5. Reusable Wet/Dry Bag

Perfect for storing wet bathers, soiled clothes or sandy toys. A wet/dry bag can be a lifesaver. It keeps the mess contained so you don’t have to worry about spills, smells, or stains inside your nappy bag. You can even use it for snacks or keeping essentials dry on beach days.

Be Ready for Anything This Summer

Summer is the perfect season to make lots of beautiful memories with your little ones so whether you’re hitting the beach, exploring the park, or just going for a walk with the pram, packing these essentials will help make sure you're prepared to tackle the little hiccups and focus on the fun.
